Parris Island Cos Romaine Lettuce forms 8-12 inch slightly loose neatly folded heads with dark gray-green slightly savoyed leaves and a creamy white heart. Named after Parris Island off South Carolina. It was developed in 1949 at Clemson University’s Agricultural Experimental Station and was released for sale by Ferry-Morse Seed Company, in 1951. This strain has a disease resistance to Lettuce Mosaic Virus and is slow to bolt and tolerant to tip burn. This lovely lettuce forms compact and uniform rosettes which are tall, 8-12”, with dark green outer leaves and a cream-colored heart. Dark green lettuce leaves are more nutritious than lighter green leaves. So this one is perfect!
