Stinging Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Seeds Medicinal Herb

Stinging Nettle is found growing all across North America and especially in moist, forested soil. Stinging Nettle is a herbaceous perennial, often grown from herb seeds, is used as a medicinal herb. It is used in the kitchen as well, they can be added to soups, smoothies, and dried for tea. Once the nettles are cooked, juiced, pureed, or dried they no longer sting. Nettle is extremely high in protein, iron, and other minerals and vitamins. For the best flavor and nutrition, harvest only the top 4 - 5 inches of the Stinging Nettle plant. Once the plants begin to flower this signals the end of the harvest season. At this stage, the leaves begin to develop gritty particles called cystoliths which act as an irritant to the kidneys. The ideal vegetable substitute in the wild for survival. It is the most nutritious green veggie you can eat! Medicinally it is even more fascinating. Stinging Nettle has a long history as a medicinal herb. During medieval times it was used as a diuretic, to treat joint pain and muscle pain. Today, Stinging Nettle root is used by some to treat urinary problems related to an enlarged prostate, and some use it for the relief of arthritis pain. Chill the seeds before sowing to improve germination. Takes 10–14 days to come up and grows 3–6'. Perennial. 75 days.
