Purple Tomatillo is a scarce OSSI-Pledged variety of purple tomatillo that is very sweet and slightly tangy. This medium-sized tomatillo stores a very long time off the vine. The flavor is much sweeter than its green cousin. A tomatillo grows within a papery husk and begins a light green color, and, when ripe, color ranges from a slight purple blush on green, to deep purple throughout. Tomatillos are used in many Mexican dishes and are the main ingredient in many salsas and sauces. The culture and care are similar to tomatoes, but, tomatillo plants will not self-pollinate, so two or more plants (of any tomatillo variety) are needed for good fruit production. 70 Days.
