Epazote Heirloom Medicinal Herb Seeds Non-GMO
Epazote flavor is pungent, with overtones of mint. Often used in Mexican Cooking. Grind or crush fresh epazote leaves, use in small amounts to season beans, corn, fish, or enchiladas. Epazote can help prevent gas. Annual plants reach 2-3 ft. tall grows nicely in-ground or containers. It is often referred to as having both an acquired aroma and taste. Its flavor is pungent, lemony with a sharp finish. Epazote contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin B (specifically folic acid), and vitamin C, as well as calcium, manganese, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and zinc. It also contains dietary fiber and a small amount of protein.
Some of the health benefits of epazote include its ability to reduce flatulence, reduce respiratory conditions, prevent certain cancers, eliminate parasites, improve the metabolism, protect the immune system, help with weight loss efforts, heal wounds, and reduce menstrual discomfort.
The seed requires light and may take several weeks to germinate. The plant prefers a rich, well-drained soil in a sunny position, but will tolerate poor soil. Pinch back to keep from going to seed. Younger leaves have a milder, richer flavor. Harvest leaves before the plant flowers and sets seed for the best flavor.
