The old French gherkin or cornichon pickler with thick flesh and few seeds. This is a renowned heirloom cucumber for pickling into cornichon and other pickles! Listed in America in 1892 by the seedsman J.H. Gregory. Great for making tiny sweet pickles and for home preserving. Harvest in just 50 days-less than 2 months-for picking and pickling. Can be used small for pickling (50 days) or larger for slicing (70 days). Rare!
Growing Tips: Sow in directly in the garden in fertile, warm soil after all danger of frost has passed. Cucumber seeds will not germinate in soil colder than 60 degrees. Needs abundant soil moisture and rich soil. Some afternoon shade is beneficial in the hot summer weather. Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days. Thin to 3 or 4 strongest seedlings in each group when they are 1-2 inches high. Don't allow the fruits to become overripe on the vine as this signals to the plant that the seed-development process is nearly complete and it will shut down. Keep mature cucumber fruits picked frequently to encourage further production. During hot weather cucumbers grow very fast, you may need to harvest them every day. Harvest the cucumber fruits early in the morning before the sun hits them for the best flavor and texture. Trellis growing saves space.
