Light green foliage with lavender flowers that are especially appealing to bees. Attracts bees, butterflies, insects & cats. Grows in poor/dry/sandy/hot soils—easy to grow from seed but slow germination. To reduce self-sowing, cut it back after bloom. The term catnip originates from the response cats show towards the plant. It has an aromatic, mint-like flavor. Its young shoots can be eaten raw in summer salads, added to stews, or rubbed into the meat.
