Eye-catching Bi-Color Shiso green leaves with red undersides. Good salad mix item or use larger leaves as sushi wraps or garnishes. It has a Larger leaf and plant than the other shisos. Leaves show the best color contrast when grown in temperatures below 85ºF/29ºC. They are a flavorful addition to salads and Asian dishes. Also Pairs well with fish, rice, noodles, and cucumbers. Shiso, aka Perilla or Beefsteak plant, is an excellent addition to the herb garden. Its complex flavor could become a new favorite without much space at one to three feet tall and only about one foot wide. The leaves rich in iron and calcium, and blossoms are used for coloring, seasoning, pickling, and garnishing. Shiso leaves are used whole or cut into strips. Use flower buds by collecting the seeds to sprinkle on salad and rice. It can also be grown as microgreens. The minty, basil-like flavor has hints of cumin and clove. Red perilla leaves are wrapped around sushi and are served with "sashimi" as a garnish. They are dried and sprinkled over rice, added to soups, tempura, or as a garnish, or in a fruit or green salad.
