Shogoin is a Japanese Turnip variety that produces large white globe turnips. The broadleaf greens of the Shogoin grow to almost 2 feet. Plant Shogoin Turnip seeds and harvest the roots when young. It is grown for both its stem and its leaves. It grows 20" in height and most tender when bulbs become 4" in diameter. Shogoin Turnips are quick growing and can tolerate hot, dry conditions, although they are hardy and frost-tolerant, becoming much sweeter as it gets cooler. Fantastic for soups, salads, or stir-fries, and Shogoin is especially good for pickling!
